Welcome Aboard, Shipmate!

If you are a long standing MASSEY Association member or a first time visitor to our Web site, we hope that you enjoy it and find it full of good information and perhaps a memory or two.  For those “first timers” who are former MASSEY Ship’s Company, we hope that you will join the Association.  The MASSEY Association exists solely to promote friendship and camaraderie between Navy shipmates who share a common bond of once having served aboard USS MASSEY DD 778.

We are uniquely fortunate to have a great bunch of shipmates actively involved in the Association from the Pre-commissioning Crew who manned her up in August 1944 and sailed off to the Battle of Okinawa to the younger shipmates who decommissioned her in 1973 after nearly 30 years of distinguished service to our Navy.  At our annual reunion you will find former shipmates representing the four decades of her service... MASSEY Sailors... now a little grayer and with a bit more tonnage but full of endless sea stories about a great ship and the great shipmates who served on her!

Our Web site offers a lot of interesting info about the ship’s namesake, LCDR Lance Massey, USN and the legacy both he and the ship named in his honor left to our Navy.  You will also find information about recent and planned reunions, the latest Association Newsletter, pictures of former shipmates, sea stories, and the latest scuttlebutt!  If you are a “first timer” and are ready to “ship over” and join us, click on the CONTACT button above, fill in a membership form, and mail it off to our Secretary.
